Apps to Challenge Our Minds On The RoadTruck driving, like any job, can take a toll on us physically, mentally, and emotionally. Our brains are amongst the most critical features gifted to us, and keeping them sharp throughout our lives is essential. It isn’t simple to think about what stimulates our brains on the road when rest is the main thought between runs. However, not challenging our brains can lead to decay and introduce unwanted, brain-related illnesses like Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Training your brain on the road can be as easy as downloading a couple of apps you can access between runs, stops, and anywhere in between for a quick jolt of mental muscle milk.
Read a Book
Reading a book is the classic, tried-and-true way to keep your brain functioning. Reading stimulates our minds and helps keep the juices flowing up there. It can also lead to feelings of relaxation and euphoria that can help you drift to sleep, even under the most uncomfortable of circumstances. Drift away into the fantasy world of whatever book you’re reading and let your mind explore. Bringing multiple books on the road may not be practical, but some apps let you store various books on your phone, such as Amazon Kindle and Apple Books. Purchase books and access them on your phone whenever downtime comes around.
Audiobooks
We often discuss the benefits of audiobooks for those who don’t have time to read or would rather have their favorite books read out loud to them—listening to audiobooks while driving is another alternative to music and is a great way to get through favorite reads without having to open them. Find your favorite book and have it read out loud to you. Sometimes, you can even pick which voice does it. Make sure not to choose a voice that’s too soothing if you must drive simultaneously.
Language Apps
Learning a new language or perfecting an old one positively stimulates our brains.
Duolingo
Apps like Duolingo help you learn many languages and can be the first step to becoming bi- or trilingual.
Games
Playing games, particularly wordplay games, can also stimulate your brain. The best apps you can download on the road feature games you can play online with friends and family. Connecting with those back home is often difficult for truck drivers, but playing online games with them will help ease feelings of nostalgia. Staying in contact with loved ones and being socially involved is essential for mental health, and these games can help. Just stay away from gambling games.
Words With Friends
Try Classic Words with Friends, also known as Scrabble. After starting a game, each player takes turns, but the game isn’t live, so you can play your turn whenever you have a free minute. Learn new words, train your brain, and connect with friends and family simultaneously. It’s a win-win-win.
Draw with Friends
Another great game to play with friends and family is Draw With Friends. Bust out your artistic skills as you take on drawing tasks where your opponent guesses what your masterpiece is. Prepare for plenty of laughs with this one because drawing on your small cellphone screen is challenging and makes for some hilarious renditions.
Brain Training Apps
All these apps will stimulate your brain and help increase brain health, but certain apps are specifically made to expand our minds. Keeping our cerebral juices strong will help us live longer and manage stress and other obstacles.
Impulse
Impulse is an excellent app for cerebral stimulation. It offers daily puzzles and problem-solving tasks. Users can also complete tests to determine their IQ, anxiety, stress, burnout, etc.
Peak
Another app made explicitly for brain training is Peak. It features matching games, math, history, and more. Peak makes brain training fun.
It’s easy to overlook things like training your brain while on the road, but even using one of these apps for a few minutes a day can help prolong brain activity and keep your mind strong and connected.
