Celebrating Annual Truck Driver Appreciation Week

For the past 38 years, the American Trucking Association has set aside a week in September dedicated to celebrating truck drivers. This year, Annual Truck Driver Appreciation Week will take place September 13–19. The week is filled with events, specials, discounts, and more, all designed to thank truck drivers for their service. Whether you’re a driver curious about what you can do this week or a community member looking for ways to show thanks, there is plenty to look forward to during Truck Driver Appreciation Week.

Celebrating Truck Driver Appreciation Week by Offering Benefits

Truck drivers are essential to maintaining the flow of goods across the U.S. and ensuring consumers get what they need. Nearly everything we see on the shelves of supermarkets, clothing stores, and other businesses has been brought there by a trucker. We have talked about the benefits drivers receive during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, but there is always more to explore as establishments prepare to cater to drivers. The official colors of NTDAW are yellow and green, so make sure to proudly display these colors to show your support.

Special Events for Truck Drivers During Appreciation Week

In addition to looking for benefits and discounts, drivers can also look forward to fun activities and special events taking place throughout the week. For our female truckers and friends, Women in Motion is featuring a webinar for women leaders in the trucking industry. The site also offers plenty of information and communities where women truckers can connect with one another.

This is also a great opportunity to connect with fellow truckers and celebrate together by hosting get-togethers that honor drivers. Families and supporters can also use this time to plan parties and barbecues for drivers who will be nearby, helping them feel appreciated during this special week.

Celebrate Appreciation Week by Giving Thanks to a Truck Driver

For establishments that welcome truck drivers, as well as family members and supporters, there are many ways to show appreciation for the truck driver coming your way. Truckers must share the road with others, and it is not always easy. If you are a driver or pedestrian, try to pay extra attention to semi-trucks during Truck Driver Appreciation Week by giving them enough space to merge safely and exit when needed. If there is a driver in your life, they will appreciate the extra attention and care shown to their colleagues this week.

One of the simplest but still thoughtful ways to show truckers love is by making signs that thank them. Whether you have time to stand along roads frequented by drivers with signs of support or are a business interested in displaying a sign in the window, a handwritten message—or even a downloadable sign from the ATA’s NTDAW website—can go a long way.
