The last few weeks of August signal the approach of fall and the gradual end of summer. They also usher in the shipping season, with freight demand rising over the next few months. The need for truckers to move freight increases this month and next and will continue until the new year. Harvest season, back-to-school shopping, and early holiday shopping will create demand for more trucks and truckers, so let’s hit the road!

On the Road with Harvest Shipping Season

Harvest season is in full effect and will continue to pick up as late-summer harvests continue throughout August and September.

Apples and pears will fill semi-truck beds, so prepare to see apple pie and pear-and-cheese desserts on menus for the next couple of months. Produce demand also increases the need for refrigerated trucks to transport some of these items. Tomatoes, zucchini, and summer squash are also abundant this month and next.

Shipping Season Hitting the Road with Back-to-School Shopping

In case you haven’t noticed the increased traffic and longer lines at Starbucks, back-to-school season has started for some and remains on the horizon for others. As many children return to school, the summer bliss is fading and the smell of new school supplies fuels new and returning students. Some school districts start in September, while others have already started, and the first shopping lists of required items have been released.

Although these lists won’t include wands or owls, they will include plenty of other supplies, such as backpacks, notebooks, specialty items, and more.

Early Holiday Shopping Adding to Peak on the Road Shipping Season

Halloween preparations are already underway, and Spirit stores are opening across the country, signaling an increase in peak-season shipping.

 Early holiday shopping will also begin over the next couple of months as consumers prepare for the holidays and retail stores stock up for Black Friday. This year’s hurricane season has already brought storms to some areas and humidity to others. With predictions of a wet fall and winter looming, many people will begin stocking up on supplies.

As summer dwindles and pumpkin spice lattes begin to sweeten the air, truckers are navigating peak shipping season. Late-summer harvests, back-to-school supplies, and early holiday shopping increase shipping demand and the need for truckers to deliver the goods.
