On the Road for Construction Season
On the Road for Construction Season
As construction season comes, will you be prepared?

Spring starts the construction season, and April is when it tends to kick off full steam. Although improving roads and highways is a positive thing in the long run, the traffic and road closures the construction season brings mean hell for those working the road. Learning when construction season is, why it’s essential in the first place, and what this means for truckers will help ease into road work and construction season.

When is Construction Season

Road work signs are more prevalent during construction season.

When the weather and safety conditions improve, we will see more infamous red and white road work signs go up. This makes April- May the prime time to improve the roads and any other construction projects that may have been put on hold for winter. Holidays in April and Spring changes make for a busy and challenging season for truckers and others who rely on roads functioning correctly. Construction continues into the summer months, sometimes avoiding significant heat towards the end, and some areas cease construction during cold fall and winter.

Why is There a Construction Season?

Potholes are a result of rainy winter months.

Our streets and highways must be drivable, and our tax dollars pay for maintaining the roads and highways we use for working. Over the winter months, rain and snow can damage roads, causing potholes and other disasters. Repairs and taking time to remove debris blocking drivable areas properly are necessary to ensure safe road conditions for truckers and other drivers alike. As soon as the ground starts to thaw and the rains stop, expect to see more road closures and road work signs.

What Does Construction Season Mean for Truckers?

When the road work signs go up, it means closures, congestion, and traffic for many truckers just looking to complete their runs. During these couple of months, it will be challenging to avoid construction zones altogether, but there are sites and apps used to document any current road work in hopes of avoiding it. Work for truckers usually kicks up during this time as the nation prepares for summer traffic.

Passing through construction areas is sometimes unavoidable, but knowing their locations can take the edge off and help plan accordingly.
